Colonization: The civil war that they had was a main factor to why they colonized. They were forced to settle in the south to get away from the killings. An Anglo-Egyptian force under Lord Kitchener in 1898 was sent to Sudan. A year later Sudan was proclaimed under British-Egyptian administration. 11 Years later, an agreement between the United Kingdom and Belgium turned over the land to the British after the death of King Léopold II in December, 1909. Eventually the modern Republic of Sudan was formed in 1956 and inherited its boundaries from Anglo-Egyptian Sudan. However, the North is trying to un-colonize them and make it Sudan again.
